Janet Munro MA BA DRSAM Soprano/Singing Teacher
Specialist in Classical and Musical Theatre Voice
Janet Munro is a soprano and singing teacher who is based in South East London. She studied initially at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she won the Jean Highgate Scholarship for Singing. An award from the Scottish Arts Council enabled her to continue her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. During her professional singng career, Janet was a member of a number of opera and Musical Theatre companies including Kent Opera and the New D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. She also had an extensive career as a recitalist giving concerts in both the UK and abroad as well as broadcasting on TV and radio.
Janet is a member of staff at the Faculty of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where she teaches singing in both the Senior and Junior departments and is the component leader for Instrumental and Vocal Teaching (Core). She is a singing mentor for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and has worked on their CT and TME courses in Colchester, Cambridge and London. She acted as one of the repertoire consultants when Trinity College London remodelled their singing syllabus in 2003.

Janet has many years experience teaching both classical singing and musical theatre. She has a special interest in helping singers establish a secure vocal technique,and create a distinctive musical identity.
Having spent over twenty years in the profession, Janet has considerable experience of all aspects of the industry. She has always combined teaching with performing and studied for her Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Middlesex University qualifying with honours and qualified teacher status in 1994. More recently she was awarded a Master degree in Music Education from the Institute of Education, London. As part of her Masters, she researched the vocal health of singers studying Musical Theatre and she has a continuing interest in various aspects of singing research. Janet aslo has enhanced CRB clearance and approved private teacher status from the ISM.

It is always a good idea to have a consultation lesson before commiting to a series of lessons whatever your level of experience. The relationship between teacher and pupil is paramount in establishing a good learning environment, and taking time to discuss goals and aspirations will enable both parties to discover if they are going to be compatible. It is important to do this, as singing lessons are a considerable investment in time and money on the part of the student.

Janet has had considerable success with her students both at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and in her private studio. Students regularly study for grade examinations with many achieving Distinction. Students have also won prizes in local and national competitions. A number have gone on to study singing at the following conservatoires and university music departments.
A number of former pupils have gone on to study professionally and are now up and coming artists establishing themselves in the industry.
